Parent Essential Fatty Acids
What are Parent Essential Oils?

Picture
There has been a lot of talk about Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) for both human and animal health. But there is much more to EFAs than the Omega-3 derivatives [EPA and DHA] that we constantly hear about. Just like humans, our pet’s need both of the Parent EFAs [Omega-3 and Omega-6] for optimal health.

Parent EFAs, or what we like to call Parent Essential Oils, means the EFAs have not been converted into their derivative forms like EPA and DHA. Your pet’s body will manufacture all necessary derivatives from the parent oils, while primarily keeping the Parent EFAs for essential functions. “Parent Essential Oils” refer to the only two true Essential Fatty Acids [parent Omega-6 linoleic acid (LA) and parent Omega-3 alpha linolenic acid (ALA)] as they occur in nature. The term “parent” is used because this is the whole, unadulterated form of the only two true essential fatty acids.

Your pet’s body cannot make parent oils. These must come from food. Unfortunately, food processing, modern farming methods, and even “fresh” food preparation…all destroy parent oils. Parent oils are needed to get these vital nutrients back into your pet’s diet the way Nature had intended. In addition, Omega-6 parent oils increase the oxygen supply to the cells.* EPA and DHA derivatives of Omega-3 [such as those found in fish oil and marine oils] do not.*
